2009 Shortwave in review

Well,as 2009 draws to a close,i thought it would be nice to review what has happened since i first posted these blogs.
There have been severe cutbacks to several countries this past year, most notably,Belgium,Sweden,Hungary, and others. Now it seems that"Chckiya" as GH points out gets a save until Feb,2010.
Also, one US SW station left the air earlier this year.WBOH went dark recently ending broadcasts from this FBN owned outlet

On the testing front,Nashville based WWCR was testing first on 4775,then on 3240,also on 3230 and finally on 4755,of which i got a QSL card for the November 11 test transmission which shows the tube in the final, along with a photo of a Grundig portable YB400PE radio and"SPECIAL TEST" on it.It was verified by Chief Enginneer,Phillip Patton.

I wish to thank many people, especially to The DXLD Yahoo Group whose postings an tips were helpful to me during the testing of this station.
Another new station, this time,in Lebanon(Where the Lux Minute Minder was originally made!)Tennessee.
WTWW should begin testing possibly around January 2010.Listen on 9480 daytime and 5755 nighttime for testing time.If you hear the station, visit

The Station is owned by Leap Of Faith,Inc. and it's General Manager is George Mclintock.
great source of information about station news is http://www.worldofradio.org
It is maintained by Glenn Hauser, the formost authority on SW Stations and schedules! Well, this wraps another blog for now and this year! Happy Holidays to all and 2010 looks to be even better! Brainy

WBOH Leaves The Air

north Carolina based FBN station WBOH on 5920 has left shortwave for good, ending potential jamming conflicts that may arise from this closing.I got a QSL card from hem recently for verifying the station.
It seems WBOH had it's problems, but was more easily heard in my area than it's sucessor station WTJC.
the website link is
http://www.fbnradio.com
In the uper right, there is only mention of WTJC,not WBOH.
I loved the music on this station very much. But they now have
competition from WRNO on 7505 khz between 01:and 03:00 UTC
Wikipedia has an entry for FBN but NOT WBOH(Unless it's the station that forced FBN to abandon this station using the same callsign!)
WWCR here in TN,has began testing 4 MHz early in the evening instead of staying on 3215 Khz.
See the schedule at http://www.wwcr.com
this has been an exciting month so far,but i lost WATE-DT 6-1 in Knoxville."No Signal" and Toll free number come upinstead of the picture and sound from thier Harris Sigma transmitter.
For more information about WATE,visit http://www.wate.com
WWV was coming in on 10000 khz at around 22:30 UT on Saturday,November 7,2009.
I hope to post pics of my reciever so you know what it looks like. Thanks for reading this entry for Monday,November 9,2009.brainy

DTV Conversion complete

Friends:
As you may know, even though i am still on the internet and can still use the cable to watch tv,i chose to experiment with digital tv.around after the analog shutdown,i decided to apply for two coupons to get two converter boxes.the first one i got came from a site called freetvsignal.com based in Florida. It took me only about three days to get it,but had no antenna to use so i constructed a makeshift one and connected it to the box,and only recieved WBIR DT 10.1 and WX on 10.2 from Knoxville.needless to say, after i failed to find any other channels,i decided to use the other coupon to buy a Sunkey DTV converter box, combined with a Mygica A20 indoor antenna.
after i got it in the mail i found box damage to the bottom, and the antenna came without original packaging. This was from meritline.com in California.now,as of this posting,i got a CM 3000 outdoor antenna by Channel Master to use when i get a roll of coax cable.I can still watch WATE,WBIR WBXX,as well as The ION affiliates on 4 channels! I hope someone in my family is nice enough to find 25 ft coax for the antenna.Note that sometimes i can get WVLT 8.1 and 2 which is MY VLT2 as indicated on screen. next blog will be about another station coming from Tennessee as well as Tests from Dominican Republic.Until then,Take Care
